In June, SKI’s Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships Coordinator, Frances Davies, participated in the BMZ Partners for Change (P4C) dialogue in Berlin, joining BftW partners and agroecology allies from across Africa. Convened by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the meeting brought together government, civil society and private sector partners to shape a shared advocacy agenda for sustainable agri-food systems.
For SKI, the meeting provided an important opportunity to strengthen relationships with African and European partners and contribute an agroecology perspective to discussions on climate change, biodiversity and the right to food. As one of Africa’s major development partners, Germany’s investment choices have significant influence on the future direction of agriculture across the continent.
Agroecology featured prominently throughout the dialogue, with participants calling for stronger policy coherence, greater accountability to existing global commitments, and increased investment in sustainable, rights-based food systems. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue joint advocacy around four priority areas: food systems, climate, the Kampala (CAADP) Agenda and fragility and crisis.
