SKI side-event at the FAO Plant Treaty GB10 meeting

SKI Farmers Rights Campaign – On 23 November 2023, SKI hosted a side-event during the week of the International Treaty for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) GB 10 meeting at the FAO headquarters in Rome. The side-event was titled ‘A decade of working towards realising Farmers’ Rights in southern Africa’, with presentations and a panel discussion from SKI partners BCI, CTDT,  UCT and ZAAB as well the SKI regional coordination desk. With about 30 delegates from governments and CSOs from around the world in attendance who expressed a lot of interest, the event allowed us to not only increase the visibility of SKI’s work at the international level but also reaffirm the relevance of our approaches.

Seed and Knowledge Initiative

The Seed and Knowledge Initiative (SKI) is a dynamic partnership of diverse southern African organisations committed to securing food sovereignty in the region.

We work with smallholder farmers to become more seed, food and nutritionally secure through farmer-led seed systems, improved crop diversity, and the revival of local knowledge systems. While we have relationships with a number of organisations and individuals all over the world, our primary stakeholders are the farmers we work with in Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
