Karen Nekesa Samukoya

Karen Nekesa Samukoya is a dedicated journalist and passionate activist from an indigenous community in Western Kenya. With a career spanning over 15 years in the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) sector, Karen has been a vocal advocate for agroecology, Culture, human rights, climate action, and gender equality. Her work focuses on advancing social, cultural, and environmental justice, with a particular emphasis on empowering women, youth, and children.

Karen is a dynamic communicator who leverages her storytelling and public speaking skills to drive transformative advocacy campaigns. She has successfully engaged audiences at local, national, and global forums, using her platform to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and highlight the critical intersections of climate change, gender, and social equity.

She also serves as the Co-Chair of the Agroecology for Climate Change Working Group at the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), where she leads efforts to promote sustainable, indigenous-led solutions to climate challenges. As a policy advocate, she works closely with stakeholders across sectors to influence decision-making processes that prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations. Karen’s unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and sustainable development has positioned her as a respected leader and changemaker within the agroecology and human rights movements in Africa.
